Intumescent Fire-rated Coatings

Obtaining official fire-rating documentation is now a standard Council requirement in most of today’s construction projects. Intumescent paint coatings are used in construction projects to protect timber and metal surfaces and steel columns from fire by rapidly expanding to up to 1600% in thickness when exposed to high temperatures. This allows it to effectively absorb heat and significantly extend the time for structural steel to deteriorate and decorative timber to burn.

Sharp Decorating Solutions is one of only a few businesses in Auckland approved to apply fire-resistant intumescent coatings. We provide expert guidance on requirements, products and process. We use the latest generation of fire resistant coatings to achieve fire ratings for 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes including FireZone 92 water-based varnish for clear timber finishes, FireZone 52 white fire-resistant coating and Phoenix intumescent for structural steel – al of which can be top-coated with compatible paints to achieve a visually attractive end result.

We’re proud partners with New Zealand’s leading intumescent specialist suppliers and qualified to issue all necessary Council-required fire rating certifications.
