Intumescent Fire-rated Coatings
Sharp Decorating is one of only a few businesses in Auckland who are approved to apply fire-resistant intumescent coatings and provide expert guidance on the necessary products, process and documentation.
Fire-rated intumescent coatings are used in construction to protect timber, metal surfaces, and steel from fire - an important task to be completed correctly. You can rely on your qualified Sharp contractor to complete the job to specification.
Intumescent coatings for structural steel
Though it may not burn, temperatures of 300°C and above will weaken steel and, once the structural strength is lost, this leads to building collapse. Intumescent coatings are one way of protecting steel from fire.
Intumescent paint for steel is becoming the industry passive fire protection coating of choice because it:
Provides vital extra time for evacuation and fire crews – adding up to 120 minutes of fire resistance to a structure, allowing more time for fire detection, building evacuation, and fire crews to get the blaze under control.
Protects the substrate from structural weakening and collapse – Intumescent paint reacts at temperatures of approximately 200°C, insulating the substrate from the heat extremes.
Intumescent coatings for timber linings, fixtures, and battens
Intumescent paint is being specified for more and more interior construction and fit-out projects and can be applied by skilled applicators to meet necessary fire rating requirements for up to 120 minutes of protection from fire while maintaining the aesthetic value of natural or stained timber.
